Project Normal: Impact

When did living like Jesus and the Twe1ve become Radical Christianity..?

To start watch our Project Normal: Impact video here.

Project Normal is about becoming “Normal”.  So let’s define Normal:  conforming to the standard or the common type; usual. The standard or average.  Commonplace, conventional, habitual, regular, ordinary. The thing is, because most of us live in the world, hanging out with people from the world, watching television and movies made by the world, reading books and magazines published by the world, we all actually end up being just like the world.  We look normal to the world.  We talk the same as the world, we do the same things as the world, we are consumed by the things of the world, and if the world is dark, we end up blending in with the dark.

But being normal like the world is not what Project Normal was about.  Project Normal was a project of discovering a new Normal, a Normal that was Normal to God but abnormal to the world.  Our slogan is:  When did living like Jesus and the twe1ve become Radical Christianity?

The twelve disciples were the first Christians, they were the first church and when I look in the Bible at the life of Jesus, like we have been doing in the book of John, and then look at the life of the twelve disciples and the early church, their lives were pretty Radical not only compared to the world around them back then, but pretty radical compared to what a lot of our lives look like in the church today.

So the thought continued, well if the twelve were the first church, and therefore how they lived was Normal behaviour for the church, how come when we the church read about their lives we think, “wow, that was radical, those guys were out there.”

Well the truth is, when we read the Bible and see how the disciples and the early church lived those guys that we say are Radical, they’re actually the Normal ones according to the Bible, according to God.

So what we decided to do as a Youth Group a year ago was start Project Normal, a journey to discover what it looks like to be a “Normal” Christian.  So for “Project Normal: Impact” we’re not going to get a whole new vision, but we are going to modify it slightly.

Our vision statement will stay the same:  When did living like Jesus and the twe1ve become Radical Christianity? But our focus is going to get better, or more intense….

For the most part, Project Normal has been a group effort, and it will continue to be one, but if we look at the apostle Paul’s life and the early disciple’s lives, yes he and they did stuff together with the church, with Christians, but they also decided to live for Christ themselves no matter what got in the way!  They would travel from one place to another to preach the gospel, plant a church and literally Impact that part of the world forever.

So my prayer for Project Normal: Impact is that you will all individually own the Project Normal Vision for your own life, and my question to you is how are you going to Impact the place you are at by living a Project Normal life?  You choose: 1.  Will the World Impact You Or 2.  Will you Project Normal: Impact the World?
